Mind your words

They cannot be seen, yet they are powerful. They cannot be felt, yet their effects are very tangible. They have no material constituents, yet they greatly affect our material world. Words are powerful. They are part of the invisible things that rule our visible world. We read books, we read posts, and hear a lot of people talk. Yet, we cannot grab these words like we can grab a table or chair.

These invisible things cause visible effects. Words like go, come, stop, yes and no are very powerful in our world. Words can change the mood of an individual, they can bring joy, they can bring tears and they can also cause madness; if you know what I mean. Words shape our world; soldiers give commands using words. A simple miscommunication could prove fatal; a battle can be lost if the wrong words are used. Even hand signs and signals, get translated back into words. Evidently, we all use words. The question then becomes, what kind of words do you speak? What effects do your words have on people?

My charge today is for us to use our words rightly. Let your words be timely; let them inspire others. Let your words be uplifting; let them bring hope to others. Do not speak swear or vulgar words; they do not help anyone. The New Living Translation Bible puts it this way “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them” (Ephesians 4:29).

Load yourself with positive words, make it a personal assignment to get rid of every vulgar and abusive word you may use. You are a person of value, an inspiration to others. Do not reduce your words to the level where people would not want to listen to them. No one likes to be insulted or abused, so do not be a source of abusive words. You are an inspiration to the world, speak inspiring words. Words are seeds; sow inspiring words. Daily make it your duty to inspire someone with your words.
